dearly deluded

Long-form self-development series written, filmed, edited, and packaged entirely by me. Designed to demonstrate my ability to build watchable narratives, understand viewer psychology, and execute full YouTube production end-to-end: scripting, camera work, lighting, audio, color, editing, thumbnails, metadata, and retention strategy.

episode 03
the real reason
you want everyone to like you

goal:

Deliver a deeply self-aware, psychology-focused episode that blends emotional clarity with retention engineering. This episode is designed to hit a universal insecurity (approval-seeking) while reinforcing the series identity: direct, honest, high-clarity conversations that feel like therapy without the fluff.

  • Sharpened the hook into a one-line emotional “freeze moment” to lock attention in the first 3 seconds

  • Officially implemented intro catch phrase “plain and simple, let’s talk about it”

  • Built a tighter identity-based structure to maintain retention through recognition, tension, and releas

  • Refined lighting and camera settings using dlog-m for a cleaner, more cinematic & consistent color profile

  • Corrected color tones with a warmer, more intentional grade that matches the series look

  • Improved eyeline stability and cadence to increase viewer trust and comfort

  • Designed a thumbnail that communicates vulnerability and emotional conflict clearly

  • Aligned the title with high-performing identity conflict keywords (“want everyone to like you”)

  • Scripted the episode around psychology-backed explanations and mirror moments to increase saves/shares

what was improved:

process:

Crafted the episode using an 8-section retention map:

  1. Conflict hook (approval as self-perception)

  2. Identity reveal (calling out behavior patterns calmly)

  3. Origin wound explanation (childhood -> adulthood approval mapping)

  4. Mirror moment (explaining the real fear underneath)

  5. Behavior loop examples (relatable micro-patterns)

  6. Psychological flip (the respect paradox)

  7. Identity-first solution (non-performative self-worth)

  8. Practical boundaries for everyday situations

This structure was built to maximize watch time and emotional resonance without losing pacing.

result:

Established a stronger emotional signature for the series (“therapy-level clarity delivered conversationally”). Demonstrated the ability to blend psychology, storytelling, and pacing into a cohesive long-form package. Showed continuous growth in retention strategy, viewer trust-building, and series consistency. This episode confirms the ability to scale a branded, long-form show with clear identity, tone, and packaging logic.

episode 02
the real reason you keep breaking promises to yourself

Level up pacing, hook speed, and emotional clarity based on episode 01 analytics. Aim for sharper opening, more direct language, and improved thumbnail-title alignment.

goal:

Re-wrote the hook to hit faster and immediately introduce conflict (“truth is…” moment).

  1. Strengthened pacing in first 20 seconds to reduce early drop-off.

  2. Adjusted set, wardrobe, and lighting to improve visual consistency and clarity.

  3. Re-graded the video using cleaner dmlog settings for a more polished, professional look.

  4. Improved framing, eyeline, and gesture openness for stronger viewer connection.

  5. Title optimized for motivational search intent and “self-bet” narrative.

  6. Thumbnail designed with cleaner facial expression, better color separation, and stronger emotional read.

  7. Added light chapter structuring in the description for watchability (timestamps, thematic beats).

  8. Used all packaging elements intentionally: title, thumbnail, pacing, setting, delivery, and retention strategy.

process:

result:

Showed immediate improvement in click-through and early retention. Established a clear series identity and proved ability to iterate using YouTube analytics. Demonstrated full-stack understanding of YouTube content packaging, viewer psychology, and long-form strategy as a creator.

episode 01
potential isn't real. you either are or you aren’t.

goal:

Create a clean, retention-driven long-form video that establishes tone, pacing, and visual identity for the series while testing what early viewers respond to.

Built a script around a strong, opinionated thesis to create early friction + curiosity.

  1. Shot in my controlled set with dmlog profile; graded for warmth and clarity while keeping a vintage-influenced look.

  2. Used a multi-step hook structure: direct confrontation, personal story, and emotional stakes.

  3. Edited with tight pacing, removing all dead air to optimize retention.

  4. Designed thumbnail color contrast to stand out against muted browse feeds.

  5. Crafted title to be punchy, polarizing, and algorithm-friendly.

  6. Packaged with minimal description to isolate performance variables.

process:

Clear signal that strong opinions + calm delivery drive watch time. Gathered first retention baseline (31.4% AVD), learned viewer drop-off patterns, and used insights to sharpen next episode’s hook.

result:
